2018 Crop Walk

The 2018 CROP Walk will be on Palm Sunday March 25th.  The Epworth team will assemble at the steps of Duke Chapel at 2:00 PM.  The 5 mile walk will start at 2:30 PM at the Chapel and proceed to East Campus, walk about a mile into the Walltown neighborhood (around East Campus) and then proceed back to the Chapel.  It takes about 2 hours.  There will be rest stops along the way with bathrooms, cookies and water.

You can contribute in various ways.   You can sponsor a walker at Epworth.  You can register to walk either with a paper form or online.  Please pray for a safe walk.  Stop by the table in the Farthex after each service.   For online access go to: http://durhamcropwalk.org/  Look for the orange banner at the bottom and follow the directions.  If you just wish to donate, select the donate option.

To facilitate matching donors and walkers here is a list of walkers (as of this moment, more will be joining).  Beth Armbruster, Sid Anderson, Craig Brown, Carie Dupree and youth, Sangwoo Kim, Jung Hyun, Ian Kim, Luke Kim, Wes Brown, Betty Matteson and Bill Matteson.

This year we’d like to strive to walk together as a church.  It is a great way to get to know each other better and share the wonderful experience!

We can park in the Allen Building Lot and Chemistry Lot.  Car pooling is encouraged.

If you have any questions, please contact Bill Matteson at whmatteson@gmail.com or call or text  919-408-1967.

March 11, 2018-UMCOR Sunday

Friends,

This coming Sunday, March 11th, is UMCOR Sunday.   At Epworth UMC, we will be taking up a special offering for the United Methodist Committee on Relief.  Funds given for this special Sunday are directed to UMCOR to assist in both natural and man-made disasters.  I wanted to share with you an article from the conference website by Bishop Hope Morgan Ward that describes how our offering will be used.

See you Sunday,

Pastor Karen

From Bishop Hope Morgan Ward:

“Grace and peace to you in the name of Jesus Christ.

We United Methodists are in mission together around the world, and in the midst of Lent, we invite a special offering to undergird the work of the United Methodist Committee on Relief. This offering puts in place the channel so that gifts may be given for Disaster Response and go to the designated recipient at the level of 100%. Thank you for your generosity in keeping this channel of giving strong.

The United Methodist Committee on Relief is at work in refugee camps, in war-torn countries, in areas where famine impacts the lives of people, and in the wake of natural disasters. We work with the United Methodist Committee on Relief in Hurricane Matthew response here in the North Carolina Annual Conference, and generous grants have been given to us, that our work may be strong.

We are a debtor conference to the United Methodist Committee on Relief. By that, I mean that even through great, great generosity across the years, we have received more in the wake of natural disaster in eastern North Carolina than we have given to the work of UMCOR around the world. We both give and receive through this wonderful ministry.

Thank you for your generosity on UMCOR Sunday or at any time during the season of Lent.”

(Please make checks payable to Epworth UMC, with UMCOR in the memo line.)
