Backpack Request

As we coast through the lazy days of summer, it is time to make our plans for our backpack program. We will soon be packing backpacks for our students at Hope Valley Elementary School and making our first delivery on September 6. Therefore, we need to begin collecting our monetary donations for the program. Due to the generosity of the Epworth congregation, we can deliver 60 backpacks weekly to Hope Valley Elementary and 2 to our preschool each week when school is in session. This is no easy task as it takes approximately $12,000 each school year to fund this ministry. (It is not included in our budget.) So now is the time to make your contribution to this valuable program. If you prefer to make an in-kind contribution, you can donate cans of vegetables (corn, peas, green beans, etc.,14-15oz. size cans).

During the month of August, you will be hearing what the students from Hope Valley Elementary have to say. We have received numerous thank you notes from them.

Monetary contributions can be sent to the church office or placed in the offering plate. Checks should be made out to Epworth UMC, with “Backpack” in the memo line. In-kind contributions can be left on the counter in the Farthex. All contributions are appreciated. It is a great mission to feed a hungry child. Thank you from the Backpack Committee.
